SABnzbd

Usenet downloading, designed so you don't have to think about it.

Overview

SABnzbd is the reference open-source Usenet client. You give it an NZB file (Usenet's equivalent of a torrent), and it downloads, verifies, repairs, extracts and sorts. All you have to do is enjoy the result.

Usenet has many advantages over P2P: no sharing required, speed capped only by your Usenet subscription, natural anonymity through your provider. No ratio, no seedbox heating up for nothing. You pay Usenet, you download at full speed.

The web interface is clean, comprehensive and multilingual. Queue with priorities, detailed history, automatic post-processing (RAR, PAR2, sample removal), notifications, API to plug Sonarr/Radarr/Lidarr in upstream. You install, you configure your Usenet provider, you forget about it.

Highlights

Complete Usenet downloading.

SSL/TLS, multiple connections, error recovery, PAR2 verification and automatic repair. SABnzbd handles binary Usenet from start to finish.

Automatic post-processing.

Once the download is finished, SABnzbd extracts RAR files, removes junk files (samples, .nfo), renames cleanly, moves to the right folder. You get a clean file, ready to use.

Native *arr integration.

Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Readarr use SABnzbd as their official download client. You configure the API once and the automation runs on its own.

Clean web interface.

Queue, history, statistics, scheduling, bandwidth limits. Everything is accessible from the browser, with no heavy application to install.

Integrated in your seedbox

SABnzbd installs in 1 click on your seedbox from the panel. The interface is immediately accessible in HTTPS via your personal subdomain. All you have to do is enter your Usenet provider (Eweka, NewsDemon, etc.) and push your first NZBs.

  • check_circle Preconfigured installation in 1 click
  • check_circle HTTPS interface accessible everywhere
  • check_circle Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Readarr connectors included

Frequently asked questions

Why SABnzbd rather than NZBGet? expand_more
Both do the same job. SABnzbd is easier to configure, its interface is more accessible to newcomers and the community is larger. NZBGet is lighter on resources. On a seedbox that's rarely an issue, so SABnzbd remains the default choice.
Do I need a Usenet subscription? expand_more
Yes. SABnzbd is the client, not the provider. Count on 5 to 10 EUR per month for a decent Usenet subscription (Eweka, NewsDemon, UsenetServer, Easynews). Many offer a free trial so you can test before committing.
What about NZB indexers? expand_more
To find NZBs, you need an indexer (NZBgeek, DrunkenSlug, NZB.su, etc.). Prowlarr, also installable in 1 click from your panel, can manage these indexers and expose them to the *arr apps. It's the classic stack: Prowlarr as conductor, Sonarr/Radarr as automatons, SABnzbd as the download engine.
